We’re at the halfway point of the Six Nations Championship, and it’s time to hand out some mid-term grades! For American rugby fans watching Europe’s most prestigious tournament, this year’s competition has delivered plenty of drama and surprises.
France (A+): Les Bleus are playing rugby that would make any APR coach jealous. Their attacking flair combined with rock-solid defense has them sitting pretty at the top of the table. They’re showcasing the kind of expansive game that’s been gaining traction in American rugby circles.
Ireland (A-): The defending champions are doing what champions do – grinding out wins when they’re not at their best. Their forward pack would fit right into the physical style we love here in the States.
England (C+): The Red Rose is wilting. Their struggles mirror what many American teams face when trying to blend established veterans with young talent. It’s a work in progress that isn’t progressing fast enough.
Italy, Wales, Scotland (B- to C range): Each showing flashes of brilliance but lacking consistency – something American rugby fans know all too well as our domestic game continues to evolve.
The second half promises fireworks that could influence rugby development stateside!
